| Helen Agbor Mbuagbaw was born on May 26, 1968 in Tiko, Cameroon to Mary and Jonathan Mbuagbaw. She attended primary schools in Mamfe and Upstation Bamenda . In 1981 she was admitted to the prestigious private boarding school, Saker Baptist College, in Limbe Cameroon where she acquired her secondary education. In "Saker", she made many lifelong friends, and was affectionately referred to by her nickname, "Mbuagbies". In 1987, Helen immigrated to the United Kingdom to pursue post-secondary education and to be closer to her mother, step-dad, and sister Ruth. Upon graduating high school, Helen moved to the United States where she reunited with many childhood friends and also commenced her college education. In 1994, Helen graduated with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice. A lifelong proponent of higher education, she proceeded to pursue and complete a Masters degree in Public Administration. Helen's lifelong dream was to pursue a career in the criminal justice field, but more specifically, to become a police officer. However, her charitable spirit and love for kids propelled her into a career as a juvenile justice officer with the State of Maryland. It was during her career as a juvenile justice officer that she discovered a true gift for mentoring youths, especially troubled youths. Later, Helen would volunteer and become a foster mother to a beautiful teenage girl, Sherla. Throughout the years she would take in several other young girls in need of a home. In 2005, Helen was blessed with her own daughter, Mavika, the result of her marriage to Ewane Nzounkwelle. As her friends and family would tell you, there was nothing Helen cherished more than being a mother to "Mavi". Helen hailed from a large family, the "Mbuagbaw clan", whom she took great pride in and loved very much. Equally substantial in size was her group of close friends whom she referred to as "family". She will be fondly remembered by them and by all who came in contact wth her for her great sense of confidence, style, and class, but moreso for her undying sense of loyalty, friendship, and love. May your soul rest in peace, "girl", till we meet again! |
